Your Child’s First Dental Visit

When should your child see a dentist?

Having a healthy set of teeth throughout life is as an integral part of total overall health. And the best time to get into the habit of seeing the dentist is….as early as possible! The myth is that children’s baby teeth don’t matter much as they are lost eventually anyway. This is far from the truth.

Children’s teeth serve a very important role. We have found that children who maintain their teeth well in childhood maintain their teeth well in adulthood.

These adults have more of their own natural teeth into old age. The opposite is true for children who have poor hygiene habits, as they have fewer teeth to maintain into old age. So let’s help them early on.

What is your role in your child’s dental care?

Parents, you play an important part in teaching and guiding your children to care for their own teeth. By making consistent appointments for your children, we can work together to help them form healthy habits for strong healthy teeth and gums for life.
If you have any questions feel free to ask we are more than happy to answer them.

What are the benefits of regularly seeing the dentist?

What can a dentist possibly do while my child is really young? Firstly we can introduce them to the whole concept of seeing the dentist regularly as a NORMAL part of life.

Too many children are brought to the dentist like it’s the emergency department of the hospital. If a child is taught that a dentist is like an emergency room, of course they will avoid it into adulthood.

Some of the benefits of starting early include:

– Educating them and parents about good oral habits
– Thorough cleaning
– Checking for early warnings of abnormalities
– Monitoring tooth growth
– Check the spacing for permanent teeth
– Checking for lip and tongue ties
– Making dentistry checkups familiar and comfortable

What are the dental services for kids?

Some of the services we provide include:

– Regular cleans and checkups with rewards
– Dental X-rays to identify any abnormalities
– Fluoride treatment
– Dental sealants to prevent decay
– Fillings and extractions
– Customised mouthguard
– Identify obstructive sleep apnea

Our aim is to identify, educate and prevent oral and health issues early.

How do we make dentistry easy for kids?

We endeavour to make the visit as pleasant as possible and maybe even with some giggles. Some children just take a look around without getting on the chair, to familiarise themselves with the surroundings. Some kids go for a ride in the chair by themselves!

Eventually, the kids are comfortable enough to allow us to take a look and actually do procedures in a relaxed and comfortable way.

We also provide NETFLIX to watch their favourite shows, a wide selection of fun sunglasses to wear, stickers and they get to choose a prize for their good efforts!

Do your children a favour and book them in now so they can experience dentistry as a healthy part of their lives.
